Scope
The Trustees may make grants for charitable purposes
in any part of the area of benefit,
but the constitution provides for particular attention to be given to
applications from any areas directly affected by operations at Gatwick
Airport.
Click the thumbnail to see a chart from which gives an
indication of the various areas in which grants were awarded in 2006.
The chart is abstracted from a more detailed list of more than 50 places
where a local organisation(s) was in receipt of a grant. For a list of
those towns and villages included within the names given on the chart
see page 7 of our Annual Report and Accounts
from where the chart is reproduced.

Amount of grant?
Since it was launched in 2002, Gatwick Airport Community Trust has supported over 1,000 local community projects and awarded around £1million in grants to local organisations in areas most directly affected by operations at the airport.
The minimum grant is £250. The Trust's normal level of grants is from £250 to £5,000. Occasional larger grants may be considered if the impact is targeted to benefit a significant number of people and is considered to make a valuable and noticeable difference longer term. The circumstances in which such grants are made are likely to be few and far between and applicants are advised to seek advice from the Trust before applying for a larger grant.
In 2007, the Trust received 193 applications for funding and approved 129 grants totalling some £176,000.

Will the Trust fund all my project?
Not necessarily. Trustees may offer part funding towards
a specific element of your application. Alternatively, they may award
a conditional grant where funding will only be released once the specific
conditions have been met. These could be:
- raising additional funds in order to complete the project
- obtaining planning or other permissions such as a licence that are
needed to proceed
Grants are not usually made where local authorities or
other public bodies are responsible for funding, though sometimes joint
funding can be agreed.

Monitoring?
The Trustees reserve the right to inspect projects during
their progress or at completion. Each year a number of projects is visited
by the Trustees to ensure that the objects of the grant made by the Trust
are being secured.
